What Defines Being Successful or Average?

Wish to become successful, accomplished, and fulfilled in all areas of your life? No problem! There are just several mindset principles that you need to adopt in your daily life, and success will follow. These aren’t hard concepts, but to better grasp them, let’s look at some comparisons between successful and unsuccessful people first. You may be surprised or even slightly disappointed when you find out how uncomplicated success can be if you stick to the basics outlined below. Ready?

Successful people focus on:

  1. Time prioritization

  2. Setting goals

  3. Problem solving

  4. Accountability

  5. Self-discipline

  6. Acceptance of rejection as a normal part of life and ability to move on

  7. They seek less entertainment and socialization, because the first five priorities keep them busy.

Unsuccessful people, on the other hand, often display the opposite trends:

  1.  Poor time management

  2.  Lack of concrete goals

  3. Avoidance of problems

  4. Poor accountability (by making excuse after excuse after excuse)

  5. Even poorer self-discipline

  6. Fear of rejection and inability to move on, thus remaining stuck in the process

  7. But many of them love entertainment and love socializing with others just like them.

Funny how that works, huh? This is as straightforward as it gets. So, the question is, where do you stand with respect to these two columns? If you’re not where you want to be at this point in your life, it doesn’t mean that you are necessarily ‘guilty of’ all seven characteristics that define an unsuccessful individual. Perhaps you have ambitious goals, but the problems and solutions that your goals entail are too much to handle, and you tend to quickly give up on your goals. You may simply be successful in one life area but not yet successful in another area. For example, you could be crushing it at work by being highly accomplished at your career skill set, while your health is going down the drain or you’re lacking the discipline to set money aside for a long-term investment plan.

The seven above-mentioned principles defining a successful mindset are applicable to each of the five aspects of a person’s life. Let’s review what these are:

  •  Health

  • Spirituality

  • Career

  • Finances

  • Relationships

What I mostly hear from those wishing to succeed but not succeeding is that the principles may appear simple by themselves, but abiding by all of them is really hard. Hence, I get asked the following questions all the time:

  1.  “How do you manage to have the body you have at age forty-seven?”

  2. “How do you manage to take care of your real estate rental businesses?”

  3. “How do you manage to still work as a nurse on top of all other obligations you have created for yourself?”

  4. “How do you find the time to go to the gym four days a week and perform fitness sessions averaging 2.5 hours each?”

  5. “How do you manage to avoid all animal products, processed foods, and restaurant food and only eat whole organic plants, which you and your boyfriend buy and prepare yourselves?”

  6. “How do you manage to detox every day?”

  7. “How do you manage to spend days, weeks, and months working on your businesses during days off and not get bored or need company other than the company of your boyfriend?”

  8. “How do you manage to also coach people on a holistic self-confidence building method?”

  9. Oh, and my absolute favorite: “What do you do for fun?”

And on, and on — how this, how that. Great, I am glad they ask! I’ll answer the last one first, to get it out of the way. It’s all fun, okay? But, here’s my problem with those asking. When I tell them a part of what I do and how I do it, guess what comes my direction:

  1.  “Oh, but there’s no way I could give up my meat!”

  2. “Plant-based sounds great, wow! So, how many eggs do you eat?”

  3. “Don’t you get tired at the gym? Isn’t it hard?

  4. “Yeah, I eat almost no meat. Only chicken. That’s not meat, right?”

  5. “Yogurt is animal-based? Really?”

  6. “I guess I could do a better job at time prioritization. Do you like having coffee with friends?”

  7. “I need a new flat-screen TV, mine is five years old. Can’t save much for investing at this time.”

  8. “I can’t just suddenly start looking at properties to buy! I need some time! What, I also have to repair them along the way?”

  9. “I can’t start a side hustle right now because I don’t have the money and I don’t know anything about business.”

You get the idea. They all love free advice, because it entails zero commitment on their part. Or so they prefer to think. The thing is, the above handful of success principles are to be applied throughout your day, every day, week, month, and year! Not just for an hour or two once a week and then take a break for the remainder of the week. It doesn’t work that way! And it doesn’t only require you to be mindful of your work or money, or your health. It is all connected — impeccable health is a prerequisite for being able to work and build a life of financial independence; consistent financial prosperity helps in being able to provide excellent nutrition for yourself and your family; and, prioritization of your relationships is a must if you don’t wish the wrong people to influence your health, financial, and spiritual decisions. Makes sense, right? It’s all you — the same person — taking excellent care of your health, spiritual, career, and financial life, and your relationships all at the same time, at all times! This is the basis for building holistic self-confidence and acquiring success holistically!
